EMPOWERMENT Plus Board of Trustees
Aoife Sheridan joined the Board of Management in November 2021. Currently, she is working with an NGO advising large organisations on integrating sustainability. Her role in this organisation sees her working with community organisations and charities, partnering them with corporates to form long-lasting, strategic partnerships. Aoife also advises organisations on governance best practices as well as guidance on how to be more inclusive and diverse workplaces. Prior to her career in sustainability, she spent several years working in recruitment, initially for a recruitment consultancy in Australia where she recruited for over 20 different companies before joining a global, tech firm where she recruited for teams in Ireland, UK, US, and South Africa. Aoife shares her skills and knowledge in governance, community partnerships, inclusive workplaces, and recruitment with our board and the overall Empowerment Plus team.
Michael joined the Board of Empowerment Plus as a child protection and welfare specialist. A former Detective Inspector with the Garda National Protective Services Bureau, he has over 15 years of experience in the investigation sexual crime and online child exploitation and was the national Garda lead on child protection. He was the Garda Lead on the Inter-departmental Groups for the Implementation of Children First and for the Development of Cross-agency Child Sexual Abuse Services (Barnahus).
Michael holds a M.Sc. in Child Protection and Welfare from Trinity College Dublin and a B.A. majoring in Psychology from NUI Maynooth. He has been a safeguarding consultant to the United Nations, European Commission, Scouting Ireland and the Council of Europe.
Lucy joined the Board in early 2022 to contribute to the oversight of and strategic planning for Empowerment Plus. She holds a First-Class Honours Degree in Management and Marketing from TU Dublin and was awarded the Deloitte and Touche Gold Medal for her final year achievements. Following this, she received a scholarship to undertake her M.Phil by Research. Lucy is currently a Lecturer in the School of Business in TU Dublin and teaches on a variety of undergraduate programmes as well as on the Postgraduate Master of Arts in Management for the Non-Profit Sector. In her Lecturing role, she sits on a number of Academic Course Boards across the various programmes within the School of Business. In parallel, she has a strong and active involvement in the field of family business research.
Lucy’s broad background in the areas of Research, HRM, Management, Strategy and Enterprise Development provide her with the skills to advise on areas for continued improvement and growth within Empowerment Plus. In addition, her experience of working closely with students from a diverse range of cultures and socio-economic backgrounds has facilitated a genuine interest and compassion in empowering people to reach their full potential.
Frankie joined the Board of Empowerment Plus to contribute to the training and development opportunities of the Empowerment Plus staff. With a background in lecturing, and as a former Empowerment Plus employee, she has the skills to highlight potential areas for growth. Furthermore, as an accredited psychotherapist working with adolescents, both in private practice and a school setting, she has a strong knowledge of Children’s First, the range of difficulties affecting our clients and previous experience of working with Tusla. She shares EPlus’ vision for empowering people and recognizes the importance of support and community as a protective factor for those living in, or with, adversity.
Ursula Collis is working currently as a Social Work Team Leader within a Voluntary Services Disability Provider in the West. With 29 years of experience within the Social Work and Social Care Arena her experience extends across Disability Services, Child Protection, Family Support, Homeless Services, Adult Safeguarding and working as a Guardian Ad Litem. Ursula has worked in both the Children and Adults Sector within the UK and Ireland.
As part of her role Ursula worked as a Social Work Manager, developing community services for Adults with Intellectual Disabilities to meet emerging needs and focus for community supports. Managing and developing a large staff team of Multi-disciplinary staff, Completing Assessments and Investigations to improve services and plan for emerging needs.
Throughout Ursula’s career she has had the opportunity to work with a variety of multi-disciplinary teams and models to provide therapeutic support, including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Community Reinforcement Approach. Ursula is also trained to provide training in the areas of Risk Assessment and Adult Safeguarding within her current disability organisation along with specialist training for addiction.
Ursula has been a board member since 2008 and has been able to support the on-going work, progression and development of Empowerment Plus.
